Palletflo® Wheels & Rail System Definitions

Material Handling:
The equipment and machinery that processes material as it is moved from one location to another, or that on which the material is stored. Such equipment includes: forklifts, conveyors, pallets, storage racks, hand trucks, and gravity flow conveyors. Gravity flow rack or live storage systems use the gravity power to move pallets down gravity conveyors that use wheels or rollers for the pallets to roll across.

Gravity Conveyor – Gravity Flow, Gravity Powered, Gravity Rack:
Using Gravity power, stock flows on wheels or rollers from the end were it was loaded and down a slope to the other end of the rack where it is pulled. The design of the gravity flow rack is a more efficient use of warehouse space than conventional racking. The shelves on standard racks are only one or two pallets deep; where by contrast, gravity flow racks may have 10 to 20, or more pallet positions per shelf.

Live Storage Systems:
Live storage uses gravity flow to increases the efficiency of the warehouse up to 60% over conventional racking. Use of the FIFO storage method is ideal for date sensitive products. The efficiency of warehouse space comes from live storage systems only needing only two isles one for loading and one for unloading. There are a multitude of storage racks available. Palletflo will work with most standard rack systems.

Storage Racks:
A frame on which articles are placed for keeping. A frame that is usually made out of steel, which has several shelves or rails on which items are stored.

"First-In/First-Out" FIFO Racks:
Designed with a separate entry and picking area, the FIFO concept improves warehouse efficiency. FIFO is ideal for age-sensitive and fast moving items because the next item in line moves into the first position automatically.

Carton Flow Racks:
Carton Flow is specifically designed to provide an efficient and cost effective solution where similar products are stocked and picked simultaneously. With Carton Flow, stock is entered in the back and picked in the front. Like products are positioned in rows called lanes on each shelve. As products are picked from the front, the next product slides down to the front of the shelves with the help of gravity. The yellow Palletflo wheels are designed for use in push back racks.

Push Back Racks:
Push Back offers greater selectivity with the same storage density as drive-in and drive-thru rack. As a new load is placed into a lane, it “pushes back” the first load and all those behind. When the load in front is picked, all the loads in the lane move forward one position.

Hysteresis:
A lagging or retardation of the effect, when the forces acting upon a body are changed, as if from velocity or internal friction.

Elastomeric:
Any of various polymers having the elastic properties of natural rubber.

Pallet:
A portable platform used for storing or moving cargo or freight.
